With so much talk about "The Hunger Games" I broke down this afternoon and bought a copy to read during an upcoming road trip. Yes, bought. Not put on reserve at the library, but bought, thats how curious I am about this series.

I was resistant at first since Stephanie Meyer was singing its praises, but now that I know that otherwise normal, well adjusted people like it too, I figured it must be safe to check out.

"Beast from 20000 Fathoms" I saw that movie over the summer. The Special Effects were amazing to this day. The acting, not so much.

The Promethus poster has me a bit curious. At first I thought it was going to be a monster movie what with talk about an "Alien" connection, but now I'm getting a "Chariot of the Gods" vibe. So I'll be keeping a pulse on that.

I should do a post on my own favorite movie posters since I was just thinking about that the other day. If not on my blog than certainly on Tumblr.; December 16, 2011 at 4:49 PM

I loved Hunger Games. It's so anti-Twilight as to not even be in the same genre. I loved it and I am looking forward to no film like the Hunger Games.

Erik Johnson Illustrator said...: Well, I'm glad to hear you say that Kal. I loved doing the theme posts over the summer, and it got me a lot of views, but very few comments.

The whole idea of those posts was to foster a surrogate community since I was sending links to the post to my friends from college on Facebook as a way of keeping in touch and keeping each other sharp (hence the name "Inspirational Illustrations" and only two or three said they liked them.

Sadly all the work I put it into it was starting to cut into my actual work time and it faded away. Now I hear so many "why did you stop doing those posts?" So much so that one of my professors actually mailed me a package full of old magazine illustrations, just so I could write about them, which I working on now if not for my freelance gigs. I thought I would have some time in December to do some stuff just for fun, but now in addition to that I have to deal with all the Christmas gimmicks! It never ends!

Calvin's Canadian Cave Of Cool Manifesto

I forever stand vigilant to protect this planet from the myriad of forces that are always against us. Be it the octopus, zombies, aliens or the robots my team of human agents, and our feline allies, circle the globe in a never ending struggle for human freedom.

I learn all I can on every subject that interests me. I especially enjoy ancient history because in the past there are valuable lessons to be found. Also, if I ever get my time machine to work properly, it would be good to know a bit about possible destinations and what to expect when I get there.

I greatly appreciate beautiful design. Be it manufactured or found naturally I am fascinated by the process of invention. I am attracted to the unique, the strange, the haunted. I like to share what I find on this blog.

And not let us forget the 'Cephalopod Menace' who, if allowed to, would wrap their tentacles around all that is good and pure in this life and crush it until it remained no more. They are creatures of pure spite. Hate is all they know. Death is all they do. They are our most ruthless and determined enemy.

So we fight. Selena has the celebrity contacts, the cat is ruthless and without pity, Roosevelt's ghost has the experience and I do the wetwork.

Fighting for the future of the planet doesn't have to be a chore, however. We can take the time to appreciate all that is cool in this world even as we cut the octopus into bite sized chunks.

This is the reason there has always been and must forever be, a Cave of Cool. Be sure to wipe your feet before you enter.
