Today Is The Shortest Day Of The Year For Us In The Tundra

Welcome Winter Solstice. Thank to great commentor Debra for keeping me honest all year long.

I have lived in places where their in no daylight for weeks. The same places have 24 hours of sunlight in the summer. You really have to experience both to understand the effects a lack of sunshine can have on you. Here are our local numbers.

Sunrise : 8:42
Sunset : 16:25

It´s also thje shortest day for us, inhabitants of the subtropical regions of México. My numbers: 7:05, 18:03 (but sunlight starts getting dull around 16:00).

What are you winters like down there with less sunlight hours?

Winters are cold (but never as close as yours). My office is 12ºC in the morning, before I turn on the heater. I don´t feel comfortable working in temperatures lower than 17ºC. We get a decent 20º degress outside at noon and around 2º at dawn (which is cold and uncomfortable if you don´t have the appropiate clothing). We are lucky, since winters are usually sunny in my city, it hasn´t snowed since 1965 (before I was born).

We are spoiled: we consider our current weather cold.

You temps sound perfect for me. I don't mind the chill in the morning but I can't stand it when the temp goes over 25. Not so much the heat but the humidity. Luckily we have beautiful summers here with great storms to cool everything off when we have an extended heat wave.
